Objectives of the Course The aim is to enable students to acquire a conceptual and technical foundation by familiarizing themselves with the historical development of printmaking techniques and important artists; and to develop their aesthetic perception, visual expression, and technical skills through step-by-step work in different colors and tones using single-block linoleum/woodblock printing applications.
Course Content This includes examining the historical development of printmaking techniques and the artists who have produced works in this field, conveying fundamental concepts related to printmaking, and demonstrating the creation of multi-color prints using single-block linoleum/woodblock printing techniques.

1 This book describes the historical development of printmaking, its fundamental concepts, important artists, and the tools and materials used; it also explains the aesthetic and conceptual aspects of printmaking.
2 Prepares and applies designs suitable for monochrome (single-color) printing methods using linoleum/woodblock printing techniques.
3 Prepares and applies designs suitable for multi-color printing using linoleum/woodblock printing techniques.
4 Understands the importance of print quality in multi-color linoleum/wood printing applications.

 
Weekly Detailed Course Contents

1 Course introduction, basic concepts and equipment. Explanation of safety and application principles. Theoretical presentation on the history of printmaking techniques and important artists. Preparing the course information package prepared by the course instructor, covering topics such as assessment criteria, scope of practical work, the nature of a printmaking artwork, materials used, etc. Preparing an introduction to linoleum printing tools and safety equipment (cut-resistant gloves, finger guards, cutting mat, safety glasses, apron, mask, ventilation/exhaust system, first aid kit). Students reading the course objectives and content, researching printmaking materials, and beginning to procure necessary materials.
2 Preparing Monochrome (Single Color Tone) Sketches for Linoleum/Woodblock Printing Applications
3 Transferring the prepared sketches onto linoleum/wooden templates.
4 The composition involves printing the specified light-colored background according to the determined number of prints and then carving the mold with carving knives for the second color tone.
5 The second color tone determined in the composition is adjusted for printing. For the final color (dark tone), the plate is carved using carving knives.
6 The printing process involves adjusting the exposure setting of the third color tone (dark color) determined in the composition.
7 All printed copies must be numbered and signed.
8 Preparing for 4 color sketch for multi-color printing linoleum/woodblock print applications.
9 Transferring the prepared sketch to the selected printing plate and performing the necessary carving operations.
10 The first color of the prepared printing plate is printed and duplicated in the specified number of copies. The plate is then engraved for the second color printing.
11 The printing plate is prepared, the alignment is adjusted, and the second color is printed. The plate is then cut out for the third color printing process.
12 The third color is printed after adjusting the position of the prepared printing plate. The plate is then cut out for the fourth color printing process.
13 The fourth color is printed after adjusting the alignment of the prepared printing plate.
14 All copies numbered and signed.
