Objectives of the Course This course aims to comprehensively examine the historical development of Turkish painting art before and after Islam, painting in the Ottoman Empire, the renewal process under Western influence, Turkish painting art in the Republican period, abstract painting after 1950, and the concepts of postmodernism and contemporary art in Turkey.
Course Content Painting in pre-Islamic and post-Islamic Turks, painting art in the Ottoman Empire, renewal in Turkish painting under the influence of Western painting, Turkish painting art until the Republican period, Turkish painting art in the Republican era, contemporary Turkish painting art, post-1950 and abstract painting, Yeni Group, Group of Ten, 1968 Generation, art in Turkey in the 2000s, postmodernism and contemporary art in Turkey.
Course Methods and Techniques Lecture, question-answer, visual presentation, art work analysis, discussion and comparative examination.

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Bilgi 
1 Learns the basic characteristics, development and cultural context of Turkish painting art before and after Islam.
2 Analyzes the evolution of painting art in the Ottoman Empire (from miniature tradition to Westernization process).
3 Evaluates the renewal, modernization and major developments (such as the 1914 Generation) in Turkish painting under the influence of Western painting.
4 Comprehends the development, major movements and artists of Turkish painting art in the Republican period.
5 Explains the development of abstraction, modernism and abstract painting in Turkish art after 1950.
6 Analyzes the conceptual frameworks, development and current trends of postmodernism and contemporary art in Turkey.
